Oxalates and Lectins in Gussy’s Gut®Updated 9 days ago

Oxalates and Lectins in Gussy’s Gut®

Many pet parents ask about oxalates and lectins in plant-based foods, especially for dogs with sensitivities. At Gussy’s Gut®, we have carefully considered this in our formulations. Almost all vegetables naturally contain some oxalates and lectins, but we have thoughtfully addressed these concerns to support your dog’s health.

How We Address Oxalates

  1. Careful Ingredient Selection

    • We use very low-oxalate, nutrient-dense functional foods in our formulas.

    • Ingredient order matters: the first ingredient listed is the most abundant in a teaspoon serving, with smaller amounts as you go down the list.

    • According to Dr. Billinghurst, the low amounts per daily serving are not a concern for dogs.

  2. Ingredients that Counterbalance Oxalates

    • Some ingredients naturally neutralize or counteract oxalates.

    • Examples include:

      • Mustard greens are high in sulfur

      • Dandelion, supporting digestion

      • Wild blueberries and papaya, which are highly alkaline

    • These components make any small amount of oxalates largely harmless.

  3. Wild Fermentation Reduces Lectins and Oxalates

Why This Matters

By thoughtfully selecting ingredients and using wild fermentation, we ensure that Gussy’s Gut® supports your dog’s digestive health while keeping oxalate and lectin exposure at safe levels.
