What Is Your Probiotic Count (CFU)?
Prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics are all benefits that come out of our fermentation processes. However, we are unable to make guarantees with regard to our probiotics from batch to batch simply because they’re naturally derived based on the individual recipes and vary depending on the soil of the different farms we source from. Just as if you were to ferment at home, your results would vary.
Store-Bought Probiotics
This is NOT Gussy's Gut. These are what we call synthetic biologics. They're non-food synthetics. These are probiotic strains manufactured in laboratories, replicated and stabilized so that they can be added to a wide variety of products that may need to be heated or extruded.
These are standardized usually to claim a number or CFU of probiotics (Google "what are standardized supplements"). They can boast CFU guarantees because the synthetic form of probiotics can survive manufacturing and is stable during the manufacturing process (usually under great pressure and/or heat). The laws prevent us from claiming or labeling CFUs on our product.
We believe nature makes the best products for our dogs through fermentation.
How Gussy’s Gut Is Different
All of our products are made differently. They are made in small batches and 100% natural. We do not use chemicals, additives, or petri-dishes to make and stabilize our probiotics. We use a slow and simple freeze-drying process and immediate packaging. We believe it's better for our dog's health.
Probiotic supplements offer one single path to gut wellness. Gussy’s Gut goes WELL BEYOND probiotics. It supports gut health in 7 ways.
Our unique process generates these benefits:
Prebiotics
Probiotics
Postbiotics
Terpenes
Enzymes
Polyphenols and phytochemicals
Short-chain fatty acids
Fermentation unlocks the magic inside plants and gives them improved bioavailability (absorption of the nutrition). It breaks the microscopic cell walls of the plant naturally. We like to say, it's almost as if they're predigested for your dog. That means it's better for all dogs — especially for older dogs and dogs with diseases that can use a little extra help in the digestion department.
By the way, all offered in a much more biologically available format (fermented), the dog recognizes over millions of years of eating the gut contents of prey animals and burying bones and carcasses for weeks before consuming. They seek fermentation.
If Your Dog Needs Therapeutic Probiotics
If your dog requires a therapeutic dose of probiotics to treat a condition, we recommend you follow that protocol from your vet or dog's healthcare practitioner.
You can feed any probiotics with Gussy’s Gut at the same time.
Gussy's Gut is not designed to replace therapeutic treatments for your dog. It is, however, able to be added in addition to therapeutic doses of probiotics. As always, seek advice and recommendations from your holistic veterinarian.
More and more evidence suggests that if you're supporting gut health and not addressing an illness or disease, whole food fermented foods may be superior to store-bought probiotics. This is because gut health is about much more than just adding in good bacteria strains (probiotics).
One Last Note
If your vet never told you to give probiotics and your dog is otherwise well, you can maintain outstanding gut health with Gussy's Gut and the amazing local microbes you have right outside your door. Get your dog out in the dirt, fresh air, streams, and grass. They're full of the best natural microbes that your dog will benefit from!
